Do you favicon?

I saw that word on my friend Theophanie's blog  {she has some adorable napkins she made!} and I didn't have a clue what it meant!  So I had to go investigate…

According to
favicon  (‘fævɪ,kɒn)   n a 16 x 16-pixel icon associated with a particular website, usually displayed before the URL in a web browser   [from fav(ourite)  + icon ]

According to Blog Is Blogging
A favicon (short for favorites icon), also known as a shortcut icon, Web site icon, URL icon, or bookmark icon, is a file containing one or more small icons, most commonly 16×16 pixels, associated with a particular Web site or Web page

So... do you see that little tiny "picture" by my name on the tab?  THAT is a favicon.

To do this; first you should ALWAYS BACK UP your blog before you make any changes (not to mention on a regular basis as well).  Here in Blogger go to Design / then select the Edit HTML tab.

Theophanie used the instructions from I'm April E.  Theophanie and I'm April E. also used the service at to turn your photograph, graphic, or logo into an ico format.  This step is VERY IMPORTANT. You also need to start out with a photo that is square.  (The earlier mentioned sites worked for I'm April E. and Theophanie so I thought I’d use them too.)

Please note that I'm April E. mentions that she cleared her cache (I did too) and that her favicon showed up within 5 minutes.  It did take longer for my favicon to appear.  I had to get off the net and then get back on before it seemed to work.  She also mentions that it may take a couple of days.  (ugh!)

So... go get YOUR favicon!  Let me know so I can check it out.

(Leave me a link to your blog if it's not linked in your GFC.)

  1. I received this comment on Facebook:
"Just left you a comment! Not sure if you got it? Great informational post! Got mine... :)"

    GREAT favicon!!
I'm glad you were able to use the instructions. :)

  2. I cleared my cache, but I still can't see your favicon! I wonder why? Oh well, I am sure I will see it eventually. I am glad you were able to do it too.
I saw the cat pillow you made your mother (flickr)that is so cool! I can picture my girls loving something like that. I will have to think up a way to make something similar. :)

  3. The favicon shows on my laptop (where I went through the process) but it does not show on my desktop. Huh?? All I can do is wait and see if it'll "pop" up! :)

  4. My favicon now shows (has for awhile) on both my desktop and my laptop as well as my husband's desktop. :)
